I am the Founder and CEO of Acuity Forensics, a nationally recognized forensic accounting firm founded in 2007, before forensic accounting became the new or sexy career path for accountants.
I grew up in a small town. Where the farmers did their business deals at the coffee shop or from their pickup trucks. Why is that important? Because I learned that simple things like a handshake and your word mean something. Even in today’s business world.
Before Acuity, I worked in both private industry and in various CPA firms as an auditor, tax accountant and bookkeeper. I learned how to help clients with their books. I know what auditors do and don’t look for. Why is that important? Because I know where fraud hides and where to look.
I am a business owner. I have had the privilege of hiring new employees. I have had the heartbreak of firing people I cared about. I have had to deal with upset customers and negotiate terms with vendors. I have worked all night and given up family vacations. Why is that important? Because I know the sacrifice business owners make every day….and why they feel such betrayal when fraud happens to them.
I could tell you that I’ve worked on over 1000 engagements and testified in courtrooms throughout the USA. I could tell you that I’m a faculty member of the ACFE and was honored to serve on their Board of Regents as Chair and Vice-Chair. I could tell you that I’ve written a book and won speaking awards. In our world, that seems important and certainly signifies that I’m at the top of my professional game.
But, the most important thing about me is that I’m a wife and a mom and a loyal friend – someone who makes it her mission every day to make our world a better place.
